Location: Maiduguri, Nigeria
The operation, conducted by troops of 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, targeted insurgents who had mounted an illegal roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya axis in Biu Local Government Area.
According to the Theatre Headquarters, surveillance cameras detected the terrorists blocking the highway, prompting the immediate deployment of a Quick Reaction Force from Dutse Kura.
The responding troops pursued the insurgents towards the Mangari–Dora general area, engaged them in a firefight and forced them to abandon the position under sustained military pressure.
The operation resulted in the rescue of 53 civilians who had been held by the terrorists, while eight vehicles seized during the attack were also recovered.
Following the engagement, troops cleared the insurgents' withdrawal route, established dominance across the area and conducted follow-up searches to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
All rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other properties were safely evacuated to Buratai, where the victims are undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.
The Theatre Command commended the swift response and professionalism displayed by the troops, noting that the operation reflects the continued pressure being mounted against terrorist networks across the North East.
Military authorities also urged residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing timely intelligence on suspicious movements to support ongoing operations.
Why It Matters
Beyond rescuing civilians, the operation denied ISWAP the ability to disrupt movement along a strategic road corridor, reinforcing the military's effort to keep major supply and civilian routes open despite persistent terrorist activity.
The successful use of surveillance assets alongside rapid-response forces also highlights the growing role of technology-enabled operations in improving battlefield responsiveness and civilian protection.
