Rescue of 360 Ngoshe Abductees Signals Another Milestone in Borno’s Security Recovery Journey

The successful rescue of 360 abductees from the Ngoshe axis has been described as more than a military achievement, but a renewed demonstration of what sustained security cooperation, community resilience and coordinated governance can deliver in the fight against insecurity.

Retired Major General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu (mni), Sarkin Yakin Biu Emirate, while congratulating the Borno State Government, the Nigerian military and other security agencies on the rescue operation, described the development as a victory that strengthens hope and reinforces confidence in the ongoing efforts to restore stability across the state.

The rescue operation, which freed men, women and children held by Boko Haram terrorists, represents another significant step in the long security recovery process of Borno, where communities continue to measure progress not only by battlefield successes but by the gradual restoration of normal life.

Security gains built on collaboration

General Bulama Biu recognised the role of the Borno State Government in sustaining collaboration with the military, security agencies, civil society organisations, traditional institutions and other stakeholders, noting that collective commitment remains central to confronting the region’s security challenges.

The retired General stressed that the achievement demonstrates the results possible when government institutions and communities work together with a shared purpose.

The development reflects a broader security lesson emerging from the North East: defeating violent extremism requires more than military operations alone. It requires public trust, intelligence cooperation, community participation and governance structures capable of sustaining recovery after security operations.

From rescue operations to lasting stability

While celebrating the immediate success of the rescue mission, General Bulama Biu emphasised the need to sustain the momentum by strengthening policies and structures that support security operations and community resilience.

He called for continued investment in the operational capacity of security agencies, while urging citizens and stakeholders to contribute actively toward creating a safer environment.

The approach, according to the retired military commander, must move beyond civic responsibility toward a broader culture of shared patriotism and participation across all sectors of society.

Turning security victories into development

The rescue of the Ngoshe abductees also highlights the road ahead in Borno’s recovery: ensuring that every security gain becomes a foundation for social and economic renewal.

General Bulama Biu identified lasting peace, restoration of traditional livelihoods and opportunities for productive living as key aspirations of the people.

He outlined priority areas including security stabilisation, return to agriculture through a back-to-land initiative, improved healthcare systems and effective poverty reduction programmes as essential components of sustainable recovery.

The next phase of the recovery journey

The latest development adds another layer to Borno’s evolving security narrative, where military successes are increasingly being linked with the broader objective of rebuilding communities affected by years of conflict.

General Bulama Biu expressed optimism that the foundations being laid through current efforts can support future gains, provided security institutions, government and citizens continue to maintain the same level of commitment and coordination.

The rescue of the 360 Ngoshe abductees therefore stands not only as a moment of relief for affected families, but also as a reminder that each restored community represents another step in the longer journey toward lasting peace and stability.
