The operation was conducted by troops of Sector 6 in collaboration with Headquarters Operation ENDURING PEACE on Sunday, 14 June 2026, following credible intelligence on the movement of illicit arms across state boundaries.

Intelligence-led interception

During the operation, troops tracked and intercepted the suspect at a military checkpoint in Makera, Riyom Local Government Area, after he was identified travelling in a white Peugeot vehicle from Jos South towards the Makera axis.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray and a jack knife.

Other recovered items include two mobile phones, two cutlasses, a police staff tag, photographs of the suspect in police uniform, two ATM cards, a National Identification Number (NIN) card and cash.

Investigation expands

Preliminary findings identified the suspect as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, a dismissed personnel of the Nigeria Police Force Base 7, Abuja.

Further intelligence indicates that the suspect is allegedly linked to an interstate arms trafficking network supplying weapons to criminal elements involved in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The suspect remains in military custody as interrogation continues to uncover additional members of the network, financiers and supply channels.

Sustaining pressure on criminal networks

The operation represents another step in ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt illegal arms supply chains and reduce the availability of weapons used by criminal groups.

The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining operations against threats to national security.

Members of the public have been encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace.
