Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have commenced a major offensive operation in Katsina State, destroying terrorist hideouts and degrading criminal infrastructure linked to bandit activities in Matazu Local Government Area and surrounding communities.

The operation, codenamed Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, was launched following the abduction of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and his wife by suspected terrorists and bandits in the area.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the offensive is aimed at locating and neutralising those responsible for the attack, dismantling criminal networks and restoring security across affected communities.
Offensive operations expand
Since the commencement of the operation on 14 June 2026, troops have conducted aggressive fighting patrols, intelligence-led raids, cordon-and-search operations and clearance missions across identified terrorist hideouts and suspected criminal enclaves within the Joint Operations Area.
According to the statement, troops recorded operational successes in the Dikkawa Hills general area and adjoining communities, including Adua, Nasarawa and Karaduwa, where identified terrorist hideouts were cleared.
The operations also led to the discovery and destruction of life-support structures and logistics bases used by criminal elements, further reducing their ability to sustain operations within the area.
Sustained pressure on criminal networks
The Joint Task Force said the offensive is being conducted in collaboration with sister services, other security agencies and local stakeholders whose support continues to strengthen ongoing security operations.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and denying terrorists and bandits freedom of action across the region.
Members of the public have been encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts against criminal elements.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA stated that troops will continue to sustain pressure on terrorists and bandits until the objectives of the operation are fully achieved.
