The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed that troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion responded after real-time surveillance detected terrorists intercepting four civilian vehicles and abducting their occupants along the highway on 31 July.

A Quick Response Force immediately pursued the insurgents towards the Mangari–Dora axis, engaged them with superior firepower and forced them to abandon all the captives before fleeing into nearby bushes.

Beyond rescuing the 31 civilians unharmed, troops also recovered the four civilian vehicles and motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, denying the insurgents additional mobility while preventing what could have become another successful mass abduction targeting road users in the North-East.

Military exploitation operations continued after the rescue as troops dominated the surrounding area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or launching follow-up attacks. The rescued civilians and their recovered vehicles were subsequently escorted to Buratai, where they safely resumed their journey.

The latest operation highlights Operation HADIN KAI's growing reliance on intelligence, surveillance and rapid-response capabilities to secure major lines of communication, frustrate terrorist ambushes and maintain civilian movement across conflict-affected parts of Borno State. It also reflects the military's broader strategy of disrupting insurgent operations before they can consolidate tactical gains against vulnerable communities and road users.
