The strategic message emerged during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalaye Fubara, at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday as part of activities marking the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL 2026).
Army leadership acknowledged the support and hospitality extended by the Rivers State Government towards hosting the week-long celebration, noting that the enabling environment created by the state contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the anniversary activities.
Beyond the celebration, the engagement highlighted the Army's position that sustained cooperation among the military, government and citizens remains essential to confronting contemporary security challenges and protecting Nigeria's strategic national infrastructure.
The Chief of Army Staff stressed that partnerships built on mutual trust and institutional cooperation remain indispensable to strengthening internal security and supporting national development.
Responding, Governor Siminalaye Fubara commended the Nigerian Army's contribution to improving the security environment in Rivers State, observing that enhanced security has supported increased crude oil production and broader economic activities within the state.
The governor also acknowledged the Army's continued operations against insurgency, pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft, reaffirming the state's commitment to supporting military efforts aimed at protecting critical national infrastructure and promoting national stability.
The engagement formed part of activities leading to the grand finale of NADCEL 2026, reinforcing the Nigerian Army's emphasis on strategic partnerships as a key component of its national security approach.
