Operation FANSAN YAMMA has intensified pressure on terrorist networks in the North-West, neutralising terrorists in clearance operations while intercepting a suspected logistics courier carrying 180 explosives allegedly destined for terrorist elements.

The operation combined offensive action against terrorist enclaves with targeted disruption of the logistics channels sustaining their operations, highlighting the Theatre’s focus on both fighters and the networks supplying weapons and explosive materials.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops of Sector 2 engaged terrorists around Garin Kaso in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State on 14 August during an offensive clearance operation. Two terrorists were confirmed neutralised, while troops recovered two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles.
The troops subsequently came under another attempted ambush from concealed positions but fought through the attack, inflicting further casualties and forcing surviving terrorists to withdraw. The statement said community reports indicated that fleeing elements evacuated several terrorists with apparent gunshot wounds as well as bodies of those killed, although the exact number of additional casualties had yet to be confirmed.
In a separate development the same day, troops conducting snap checks intercepted a suspected arms and explosives courier identified as 57-year-old Sani Umar. A search of his vehicle resulted in the recovery of 180 units of 20mm Super Power explosives, allegedly being transported from Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State for delivery to suspected terrorist elements operating in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The suspect, vehicle and recovered explosives remain in custody for further investigation.
The twin operations underscore the broader operational pressure being applied by FANSAN YAMMA against terrorist networks, combining direct clearance operations with efforts to intercept the weapons, explosives and other resources required to sustain violence across the North-West.
The Theatre Command said it would maintain the momentum of operations aimed at denying terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the region.
