Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a coordinated ISWAP assault on Forward Operating Base Mandaragirau in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, killing several terrorists and recovering rifles, rocket-propelled grenade equipment and other combat materials.

The attack, which came from two fronts in the early hours of 15 August, was met by troops using established early-warning and surveillance systems to detect the advancing terrorists before they could overrun the position.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, troops of 162 Amphibious Battalion detected the assault at about 02:00 hours and deployed a combat team to intercept one axis of advance. The resulting engagement forced the attackers back, while a second group attempting to bypass the ambush team and infiltrate the base was also repelled by superior firepower.
Troops subsequently launched a hot pursuit and exploited the contact and withdrawal routes. Several terrorists were neutralised during the engagement, while troops recovered AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with bombs and chargers, a camcorder video camera and other combat-enabling equipment.
Surveillance footage obtained during the operation further showed fleeing terrorists dragging several bodies of their colleagues towards the Timbuktu Triangle, providing additional indication of casualties among the attacking force.
The Theatre Command said the successful defence of the Forward Operating Base demonstrated the readiness and combat effectiveness of troops in responding to coordinated terrorist assaults. It also commended the personnel of 162 Amphibious Battalion for their courage, tactical proficiency and professionalism.
The operation recorded no casualty among own troops, according to the statement.
Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to maintaining pressure on terrorist elements, denying them freedom of action and sustaining military operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across the North-East.
