The attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on 10 August 2026, when a large number of ISWAP terrorists attempted to overrun the military position. Troops responded with what the Theatre Command described as determined and effective fire, neutralising several attackers and recovering weapons, ammunition and communication gadgets.
The engagement, reveals continuing terrorist attempts to challenge military positions in the North East, with the Theatre Command acknowledging that part of the base's defences was temporarily breached during the assault.
Military position holds despite attempted breach
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, in a statent said troops remained firmly deployed in and around the Forward Operating Base and adjoining areas after the attackers withdrew.
The Theatre Command said post-engagement surveillance footage confirmed several terrorist casualties being evacuated by the retreating fighters. The recovered equipment and surveillance material are undergoing further operational assessment as troops continue exploitation of the area.
The military also disclosed that a few personnel sustained injuries during the engagement, while some combat enablers and vehicles were damaged by Rocket Propelled Grenade fire after the temporary breach.
The injured personnel were promptly airlifted and are reported to be stable while receiving medical attention.
Continued deployment aimed at preventing re-engagement
The immediate military response has shifted from repelling the assault to maintaining pressure and preventing the terrorists from exploiting the area for another attack.
Troops have continued to dominate Gajiram and adjoining areas, while monitoring terrorist movements and conducting further assessment of the attackers' casualties, equipment and activities.
The development reinforces the operational importance of maintaining forward military positions in areas where ISWAP continues to seek freedom of movement and opportunities to challenge security forces.
The Theatre Command said the latest engagement remains under operational review, with further exploitation expected to provide additional information on the attackers and the circumstances surrounding the assault.
Public vigilance remains part of the response
Residents of Gajiram and surrounding communities have been advised to remain calm and continue their lawful activities as military personnel maintain heightened vigilance across the area.
The Theatre Command also called on members of the public to report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies, emphasising intelligence sharing as an important component of ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Information can also be provided through the designated security contact line, 07084988859.
Operation HADIN KAI said it remains committed to sustaining pressure on ISWAP terrorists across the North East, denying them freedom of action and maintaining military presence in vulnerable areas until lasting peace and stability are restored.
