The Nigerian Army has bid farewell to former Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Major General Ezra Jakko (Rtd.), whose remains were laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, amid tributes to a career marked by professionalism, leadership, mentorship and service to Nigeria.

The funeral ceremony, held on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, brought together members of the late officer’s family, serving and retired military officers, colleagues, friends and other dignitaries who gathered to honour his life and service.
According to a statement signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director Army Public Relations, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Major General Taofik Temitope Sidick, described the late senior officer as a highly professional soldier whose career was distinguished by dedication, discipline and commitment to duty.
Lieutenant General Shaibu, in the funeral oration, also highlighted Major General Jakko’s character and ability to build enduring relationships across professional, social and religious divides, describing him as an exemplary leader whose innovative and instructional abilities positively influenced personnel who served and trained under him.
The COAS particularly recalled his contributions to human capacity development while serving as Chief Instructor and Acting Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Finance (NASFA), where his knowledge, mentorship and leadership contributed to the professional development of numerous students.
Major General Jakko was born on 15 August 1964 in Wule, Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army through the Direct Short Service Commission as a Lieutenant on 4 October 1989. He rose through the ranks during his military career to attain the rank of Major General before his retirement.
Earlier, a funeral service was held in his honour at the All Saints Military Protestant Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, where the officiating Minister, Apostle Emmanuel Kure, paid tribute to the late officer’s devotion to both military service and humanitarian work.
Apostle Kure described Major General Jakko as a generous and devoted servant of God, noting that he had also served in religious leadership as a Pastor and General Overseer of the Gospel Believers Mission.
He reminded the congregation of the transient nature of life and urged the bereaved family to draw strength from God and the enduring memories of the late senior officer’s life and service.
The funeral was attended by former Chief of Defence Staff General Gabriel Olonisakin (Rtd.), CFR, former Chiefs of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (Rtd.), CFR, and Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (Rtd.), CFR, alongside serving and retired senior military officers, members of the Nigerian Army Officers' Wives Association, captains of industry, family members, friends and other dignitaries.
As Major General Jakko was committed to mother earth with full military honours, tributes centred on a life remembered for professional service, leadership, mentorship and devotion to humanity.
The Nigerian Army and the late officer’s wider community of family, colleagues and friends were left to reflect on a career that spanned more than three decades of military service.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
