The Army Chief underscored this connection during a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to Rwanda, Ambassador Ibrahim Zanna, in Kigali, as part of his official working visit to the country.

The visit followed an invitation from the Army Chief of Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Major General Vincent Nyakarundi, and formed part of engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral military relations.

A statement issued the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the engagement highlighted the strategic role of diplomatic support in advancing Nigeria’s defence relations and strengthening military cooperation with African partners.

Closer coordination between the Nigerian Army and Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Rwanda is expected to support bilateral defence engagements, professional military exchanges and cooperation on shared security priorities.

Diplomatic channels can help sustain institutional relationships, facilitate engagement between defence establishments and ensure that military partnerships remain aligned with Nigeria’s wider national interests.

The visit also underscored the importance of a whole-of-government approach to Nigeria’s engagement abroad. Greater coordination between diplomatic and military institutions can help consolidate existing partnerships, identify opportunities for further defence collaboration and support collective efforts to promote peace, stability and security across Africa.
