Mahmuda gave the charge on 1 October 2026 during visits to the newly established Headquarters 7 Brigade in Oyo, Oyo State, and 137 Battalion in Ile-Ife, Osun State, as part of efforts to ensure the formations become fully operational and begin discharging their constitutional responsibilities.
A statement by the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said the GOC warned troops against unprofessional conduct and urged them to protect the image and reputation of the Nigerian Army while maintaining effective civil-military relations with their host communities.
The GOC said the establishment of the new formations reflects the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu's intent to increase the Army's presence and put more boots on the ground to address contemporary security challenges.
He urged the troops to reciprocate ongoing efforts to improve their welfare under the COAS's Soldiers First concept by remaining committed to their duties and denying criminal elements freedom of action.
The visit also enabled the GOC to assess the locations and the readiness of personnel as the newly established formations settle into their areas of responsibility.
In Ile-Ife, community leaders led by Sooko Adegboyega Ogunwusi, Sooko Laukun of Ife, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for establishing 137 Battalion in the town and commended the COAS and GOC for the initiative.
