The rescue followed a distress call on 16 October 2026 reporting terrorist activity in Gamji community, Sabuwa Local Government Area, where 27 residents, comprising 15 males and 12 females, had been abducted.

Troops of Sector 1 swiftly pursued the terrorists along the Gangare–Kamba axis and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the captors to abandon their victims and flee.

A statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja said all 27 victims were rescued unharmed during the subsequent exploitation of the area. They were profiled and handed over to community leaders for reunification with their families.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops conducting a fighting patrol around Kurba village in Kankara Local Government Area encountered terrorists travelling on three motorcycles.

The terrorists fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning one motorcycle, which was recovered during the operation.

The two operations reflect the task force’s continued offensive posture against terrorist activity in its joint operations area, with troop responses focused on disrupting armed groups and protecting residents.

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their gallantry and swift response. He reassured residents of Katsina, Zamfara and adjoining states of the task force’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security.

The operations highlight the importance of timely responses to distress calls and sustained patrols in communities facing terrorist threats, particularly where swift intervention can help secure the release of abducted residents.
