The operations involved coordinated employment of Nigerian Army Aviation, the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (NARPAS) Regiment and Air Component assets, targeting terrorist concentrations, logistics infrastructure and locations linked to the group’s operational network.
In a statement by, the Acting Military Information Officer at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed that the strikes covered areas around Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area (LGA), Badu in Monguno LGA, Mairari in Guzamala LGA and Duste Uku in Gombi LGA, Adamawa State.
A further strike on 18 October targeted the alternate residence of Abu Saleem, identified in the statement as the ISWAP Wali of South Lake Chad, in the Arina Woje area of Monguno LGA, Borno State.
The 18 October operation followed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance activities focused on Abu Saleem’s alternate residence. Subsequent human intelligence reportedly confirmed the deaths of Jindullah, described as a prominent ISWAP fighter and Abu Saleem’s chief security guard, and Abul Kissa, identified as a member of the group’s Shura Council, alongside other fighters at the targeted location.
According to the operational account, the strike destroyed the structure and logistics assets stored there, including nine boat engines and several motorcycles. The operation was intended to disrupt the group’s use of the forested location for concealment and logistical support.
On 13 October, a Guardian air asset reportedly tracked 16 terrorists from the Mairari axis to a gathering of more than 100 suspected terrorists accompanied by several motorcycles. The gathering was located approximately 23 kilometres east of Badu and 19 kilometres west of Monguno.
A subsequent precision strike resulted in the assessed neutralisation of approximately 30 terrorists. The extent of damage to the motorcycles could not be confirmed, according to the statement.
Other strikes during the eight-day period targeted terrorist elements and facilities around Gudumbali, Badu, Mairari and Duste Uku. The military attributed the cumulative reported toll of 103 neutralised terrorists and the destruction of logistics infrastructure to the sustained campaign across the joint operations area.
The operations highlight the role of intelligence, surveillance and coordination among aviation assets in applying pressure to terrorist networks. Operation HADIN KAI said it would sustain operational momentum through continued cooperation among Nigerian Army Aviation, the NARPAS Regiment, the Air Component and ground forces, with the stated objective of denying terrorists safe havens and improving security across the North-East.
