The bilateral security commitment was solidified during a diplomatic courtesy visit to Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stefan Rossel, met with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to strengthen long-standing defense relations and evaluate joint military projects.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Ambassador Rossel characterized Nigeria as a highly valued strategic partner of Germany. He reaffirmed his country's commitment to protecting and expanding the bilateral relationship, emphasizing that sustained cooperation between both nations will yield mutually beneficial initiatives across the defense and security sectors.
The Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, confirmed that the high-level engagement provided an operational platform for the German Technical Advisory Group (G-TAG) to brief defense leadership on the progress and tactical impact of ongoing training support provided to the Nigerian military.
During the technical briefings, military leadership reviewed key capacity-building milestones achieved through German partnership, specifically highlighting ongoing developments at the Nigerian Mechatronics School, advanced Combat Tactical Care Training, and specialized Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED) warfare initiatives.
In his response, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, expressed the profound appreciation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the Government of Germany for their steadfast partnership and tangible material support through the G-TAG frameworks.
Emphasizing the strategic urgency of expanding bilateral ties, General Oluyede called for a significant increase in strategic and advanced course opportunities for Nigerian officers and soldiers, stressing that continuous professional development is vital to bolstering operational competencies and combat effectiveness.
General Oluyede further assured the German delegation of the Armed Forces' total readiness to consolidate the existing security alliance, explore new frontiers of military cooperation, and decisively confront evolving regional security threats in defense of shared international interests.
