The Chief of Policy and Plans Nigerian Army Lieutenant Lamidi Adeosun has stated that the world is always a better place when men and women stand for a good cause.
Adeosun stated this during the distribution of palliatives for caddies at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club in Collaboration with the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's Golf Club Abuja.
Those present at the distribution of the relief materials which took place at the Mambilla Barracks Asokoro, also observed a minute silence for the repose of the souls claimed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Army Chief of Policy and Plans who is also the Chairman of the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club emphasized the important of showing care and love at this time when humanity is facing a common enemy.
He said the club engages the Barrack boys and youths around the Barrack communities to groom and mentor them in golf.
"One of the primary focus of the TYB Resort and Country Golf club is the positive engagement of our Barack youths to ensure they turn out as responsible adults towards the actualization of this vision the club encourages the Barrack boys and youths from nearby communities as caddies to introduce them to the game of golf and ensure they turn out as responsible citizens of our dear country"
"The caddies form a substantive part our Barrack children to whom we owe the responsibility of appropriate grooming and mentoring through constructive engagement, the club has the expectation of some of the caddies becoming professional golfers in the nearest future, in the short term the club also serve as veritable avenue for financial benefits to the caddies to support their well being"
"The total lock down of tge club since the 28the of March this year due to Corona Virus pandemic has no doubt impacted negatively not only on the caddies but also their family, it was in that regard that the club and its sister club Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Golf Club constituted and set up a committee to coordinate the utilization of funds contributed by members to provide palliatives to our caddies" said Adeosun.
Earlier Chairman of the Clubs Committee Brigadier General Samson Sunday Jiya said the the distribution of the palliatives is in line with what is happening around the world to support the less privileged.
"A lot of the caddies are tge children of the soldiers in the Barrack and for the past three weeks the golf courses around the country have been closed so we thought it wise to support the caddies" said Jiya.
The palliatives package include 10kg of rice, Indomie groundnut oil, Maggi, tomatoes paste, spaghetti and salt.
Baba Muhammed Who spoke on behalf of the receivers of the palliatives appreciated the kind gesture by the club and pray that the COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end soonest.
In His vote of thanks, the Club Captain, Brigadier General Adekunle Aribiyi said the distribution is in continuation of the vision of the patron of the club which is to positively engage the youths while thanking the committee who ensured that all things run smoothly.
