Sammie Okposo sudden demise hit hard at industry colleagues

The Nigerian creative industry was thrown into mourning on Friday 25th of November, 2022 as the news of the sudden demise of gospel Artist, Sammie Okposo broke. 


From those in the entertainment industry in Nigeria who have worked with the man and those who respect and love him have been expressing outpouring of grief and shock as the singer was not known with any health challenge before his demise.


The late artist had in less than 24 hours put up a post on his Instagram page  before his demise with a throwback video of his concert where he could be seen leading the congregation in an intense praise and worship session.


A statement from a relative, Hector Okposo in the announcement of his death to the public reads, “It is with a heavy heart but with total submission to God that I announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and minister of God, Sammie Okposo. Sammie slept and went to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, November 25, 2022. More details about the burial will be communicated soon"

“We are consoled because we know that he is with Jesus, singing with angels. We kindly request the family is allowed to grieve peacefully at this time.”

The likes of Richard Mofr Damijo popularly known as RMD, Banky W, and a while lot of industry colleagues, friends and fans took to their social media pages to express grief and shock at the sudden news. 


The President Muhammadu Buhari through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina consoled Nigerians over the death of the gospel singer. 


Popular gospel artist, Nathaniel Bassey on his Instagram page, wrote, “News of our brother’s passing, Sammie Okposo, hit me really hard this morning. I am still dazed. I pray for God’s comfort and strength for the immediate family, friends and colleagues.”



Amaka Okwuoha, known in the gospel circles as Chioma Jesus, also posted a tribute to the ‘Wellu Wellu’ singer  with a broken heart emoji


Comedian Akpororo, Joe Praise and many other industry colleagues have been hit hard by the news of the sudden demise. 


Before his death, Sammie Okposo was billed to perform at some events one of which he announced to his fans that he would at the Outpouring Assembly international, in Calabar which runs from November 25 to November 27, 2022.
