The Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM), Brigadier General Wisdom Etuk has inaugurated the Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (JLSOC) 2/23 comprising of 171 students from various Corps and Services.
A statement by College Public Relations Officer, Major George Akupe said the course inauguration was at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai Hall, NACOLM permanent site Ojo, Lagos, in South West Nigeria.
The Guest Lecturer, Corps Commander Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Major General Hassan Tafida who is also a member of the College Board of Governors Delivered the Inaugural lecture titled: ‘The making of an effective leader and staff officer for joint operating environment’.
The Commandant spoke on some attributes of tactical level officers, JLSOC contributions to the development of tactical level officers and field observations on staff training of tactical level officers.
Brigadier General Etuk who addressed the participants disclosed that the College was established in December 2002 with the initial mandate of training Logisticians.
He pointed out that following the expansion of the courses run in the College with the addition of leadership and staff officers courses, the mandate was modified to producing efficient Logisticians and staff-trained officers.
To also produce officers with requisite leadership skills that are capable of effectively discharging their duties in both joint and combined operations at formations and higher levels, using contemporary management concepts and techniques.
General Etuk reiterated that the JLSOC will run for about 23 weeks, with a well loaded curriculum. He further stressed that time is a resource that must be utilized while in the College, while urging the students to efficiently plan, manage and use their time properly.
The Commandant encouraged the students to work in harmony and create room for intellectual dialogue and interactions. He also used the medium to caution students on the risk of plagiarism, calling for originality in their submission and acknowledge any work consulted to avoid academic fraud.
General Etuk expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja (NAM) for all the supports provided to the College while congratulating the students on their nomination to attend the course.
Highlights of the event were inspection of the Quarter Guard by the SGOH, Inaugural address and lecture, group photograph, exchange of souvenirs as well as a light refreshment at the NACOLM Officers’ Mess Ojo.
In attendance were Commandants of NA Schools, Commanders and Commanding Officers within Lagos state, Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies of the College Brigadier General JIB Manjang ably represented by the Acting Director Management, Leadership and Staff Studies Colonel S Julius, Director of Administration NACOLM Brigadier General OJ Majebi, Chief Instructors, Members of the Directing Staff and Administrative Staff, student officers amongst others. The event was successful and hitch free.
