The Nigerian Legion in collaboration with Military Widows Association (MIWA) has Flag off its annual Mass Transit Stickers and Tickets for onward distribution as partt of efforts to support the families of fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in service to the nation as well as ex-service men.
The National Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Major General Abdulmalik Jibril retired while flagging off the stickers and tickets at the Nigerian Legion Headquarters in Abuja Nigeria's Capital, appealed to members of the public to support the initiative so that those who served deligently in the military and their families are not forgotten.
The retired General canvas for support for the nation's Armed Forces as they continue to sacrifice for the peace of the nation and the safety of all citizens. He emphasized that those who have served and retire, those who died 8n active duty and left loved ones behind as well as the incapacitated must be supported for the selfless service they rendered.
Retired General Abdulmalik expressed gratitude to the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu who under the poverty alleviation program has extended benefits to members of the Legion, ex service men, widows dependant and the incapacitated.
He equally used the opportunity to call on all members of the Legion to reach out to nearest offices and register to benefit from the program.
"These stickers are launched and will be sold to the public as we call for support in recognition of the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, those who paid the supreme price, those who served and left, those without limbs and have families to support, through these stickers, the revenue generated will be used to cater for some of the enormous needs"
"We are still generating the list of all ex-service men, though some have already neen generated and passed on to the Ministry of Defence, through Defence to Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation"
The National President, Military Widows Association, Mrs. Veronica Aloko earlier praised the quality leadership style of the National Chairman Nigerian Legion testified that he continues to carry the plight of the widows with all seriousness and therefore requires every support to be given him. She said all the projects are being undertaken by the Legion and MIWA to help the Nigerian military widows and retired men to lessen their burdens through the revenues realise.
The Military Widows Association is an initiative that strives to provide for and protect the families of the fallen heroes as the organization is dedicated solely to the needs, concerns and welfare of military surviving spouses and dependent children.
While the Nigerian Legion was established to cater for the welfare of ex-servicemen and persons who have distinguished themselves in the wars in which Nigeria has participated.
