The Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa says Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day holds great significance as it provides the military with the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices, bravery and commitment of the nation's fallen heroes in defending the territorial integrity of our country.
He stated this in his Goodwill message to all officers and men of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the solemn occasion of the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day 2024.
The Defence Chief said the annual event is to commemorate the unwavering commitment and heroism demonstrated by the nation’s servicemen and women in various military operations. The country he said also "remembers and pay its collective tribute to them for their sacrifices not just today, but every day as they gave ‘their today’ for ‘our tomorrow’.
He used the accession to honour and acknowledge the immeasurable contributions of our gallant officers and men both serving and retired whose selfless dedication to service in protecting the nation's freedom, security have resulted in the relative peace which the country enjoys today.
He assured the men of his unrelenting support as they continue to uphold the values of respect for the rule of law, professionalism, loyalty to constituted authority, discipline, selfless service and courage.
He expressed profound appreciation to those who have suffered one form of injury or the other as he Pledges to continue to pray for their quick recovery.
Similarly, for those who have passed on, he appreciated their great sacrifices and urged them to continually remember that all their efforts and steadfast devotion in the defence of the nation's democracy and national unity, in line with the constitutional roles will never be in vain.
The CDS said as the country reflects on the gains achieved so far, he charges the troops to remain resolute in defeating all forms of security threats so as to ensure enduring peace and security in every area of the dear nation.
On his part, he Pledges to continue to prioritize the men's welfare while steering the affairs of the armed forces in line with his leadership philosophy “To Nurture a Professional Armed Forces of Nigeria that is People Centric, Capable of Meeting its Constitutional Responsibilities in a Joint and Collaborative Environment”.
He therefore urges the men of the Armed Forces to continue to remain vigilant and uncompromising in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities. He expressed profound gratitude to the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his numerous and timely support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The Defence Chief assured the President of the unalloyed loyalty and commitment of the Armed Forces in defending the nation’s democratic values whilst ensuring peace and cohesion in the country.
Similarly, he expressed appreciate to the esteemed families, particularly the spouses of the men and officers of the Armed Forces for their inestimable roles in keeping the home front whenever duty beckons on them.
He said their untold sacrifices as a result of prolonged absence have been impactful and productive, as is evident in the qualitative outputs of the men and women of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in their respective areas of national assignment.
General Musa therefore implore them to sustain their efforts in ensuring that the place called home remains peaceful.
