As Nigeria remembers its Fallen Heroes and honours its living veterans, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday 15th January 2024 lead government officials and members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to lay wreath at the National Arcade in the herat of the nation's capital Abuja.
As part of activities climaxing the 2024 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Parade, the President and Commander -In-Chief of the Armed Forces, eminent citizens joined the President to honour the fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, according to the Assistant Director Army Public Relations Guards Brigade, Captain Godfrey Anebi Abakpa.
The President who was the Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony on arrival inspected the guards before proceeding to the Cenotaph with other dignitaries, the Service Chiefs as well as the Inspector General of Police to lay wreaths at the foot of the unknown soldiers.
High point of the solemn event featured the blowing of the last post, reveille as well as the firing of the volleys. The President also signed the anniversary register and released birds of pigeons which stands as a mark of peace and freedom for the nation.
The event was attended by eminent personalities including the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Speaker House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen. Others are the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of FCT His Excellency Nyesom Wike and the Hon. Minister of state Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
Also in attendance were the National Presidents of the various Armed Forces Officers' Wives Association, members of the diplomatic community, widows as well as orphans left behind by the fallen heroes.
