Ecowas Suport Mission In Sierra Leone, Operationalisation Of The ECOWAS Standby Force Forms Discuss At Regional Defence Chiefs Meeting

42nd Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff holding in Abuja, Nigeria's Capital is focusing on critical issues such as the proposed ECOWAS Security Support Mission in Sierra Leone, ongoing peace operations, and the operationalization of the ECOWAS Standby Force. 

The Meeting which started on Wednesday 7th August 2024 brings together top military leaders from West Africa to address the region's pressing security concerns.
Nigeria's Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru in an address urged the stakeholders to strengthen security cooperation in order to enhance defence capabilities against all forms of security threats. 

A statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations Ministry of Defence Henshaw Ogubike said the Defence Minister emphasized the significance of collective efforts in combating terrorism, cross-border crimes, and hybrid threats. 
He stressed the need for enhanced regional security cooperation to safeguard nations within the region and promote sustainable development. The Minister encouraged open dialogue, shared expertise, and collaborative solutions to strengthen security cooperation and enhance regional defence capabilities.
While reaffirming the commitment to achieving peace and security in West Africa, the Minister noted that the security landscape of West Africa is presently marked by complex challenges. 
He therefore called for joint efforts towards countering terrorism, managing cross- border crimes amongst others in the region.
