The Nigerian Army has begun a 3-day workshop aimed at spotlighting hazard identification and risk assessment in the aviation operational environment inorder to develop strategies that reduce risk to its bearest practical minimum.
The workshop by the Nigerian Army with the theme: “Exploring the Critical Roles of Human Factors in Aviation Emergency Response Procedure” commenced on Monday 12th August 2024 at the Nigerian Army Aviation Unit, Giri, in the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria's Capital.
The workshop also aims to boost the operational capabilities of the personnel of the Nigerian Army Aviation on safety, efficiency, enhance the timescales of responses to emergencies during operations, as well as expand thier knowledge on identifying elements that cause hazards as well as other risks that arise in the operating environment.
Addressing the participants at the workshop, the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Sani Mohammed laid emphasis on the complex environment of aviation and the human factors that influence the operating environment.
Represented by the Deputy Chief of Training, Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi said understanding the human behaviour, decision-making, and teamwork can significantly improve outcomes in crisis situations.
Major General Mohammed said the commitment to excellence in aviation safety and emergency response is a shared responsibility geared towards enhancing readiness, resilience and ultimately safeguarding lives.
"The complex and hectic environment of aviation, the roles of human factors, from pilots, aircraft engineers, air traffic controllers, to other support ground crew and emergency responders, cannot be overstated" he stated.
He appreciated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja for his unwavering commitment, support and dedication to the operationalisation and realisation of the Nigerian army Aviation vision.
He equally charged the participants to foster greater synergy among the stakeholders, while charting clear path to a capable and effective Nigerian Army Aviation.
The Coordinator of Nigerian Army Aviation, Brigadier General Musa Alkhali in his address pointed out that the aviation profession is such that operates in an environment that requires precision, where rapid response are critical and discipline is paramount.
According to the Aviation Coordinator it is critical for the aviation operators to have the ability to make quick and informed decisions under pressure, be able to coordinate various teams as well as understand the human limitations and strength.
