Nigeria's Eagles Soar Higher Above the Cheetahs of Benin Republic

Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen were the marksmen to beat in Super Eagles vs the Cheetahs of Benin Republic as Nigeria's Super Eagles commanded a 3-0 victory in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in Uyo on Saturday.

At the first blast of Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed Omar’s whistle, the Eagles had not won a qualifying match in seven games. Ademola Lookman beat three defenders and got passed the opponent goalkeeper Marcel Dandjinou to give Nigeria’s first goal on Matchday 1.

In the 66th, Nwabali made a glorious double save from the boots of Cheetahs’ captain Steve Mounie, and 13 minutes later, Nigeria went 2-0 up when substitute Victor Osimhen got a pass from Wilfred Ndidi and slot into the net.

Lookman made it a clear win with a header from substitute Moses Simon with just seven minutes left. The win lifted the Super Eagles to the top of the table as Rwanda and Libya battled to a 1-1 draw in Tripoli on Wednesday.

The Eagles will clash next with with Rwanda’s Amavubi in Kigali on Tuesday afternoon, while Benin Republic will host Libya’s Mediterranean Knights in Abidjan.
