Former President and military leader in Nigeria, Mohammedu Buratai Dies in London, Vice president Shettima To join the Family and bring his body home
Nigeria's Government has announced the passing of the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari who died on Sunday, 13th of July in London at about 4.30 pm, following a prolonged illness
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made the announcement through a statement issued by the presidential spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, who said President Tinubu spoke with the wife of the late president, Mrs Aishat Buhari, offering his deep condolences on behalf of the nation.
Nigeria's Vice President, Kashim Shettima has also been given the go ahead to proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany President Muhammadu Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.
President Tinubu also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honour and respect to the departed leader.
The Former President, Mohammadu Buhari was elected two times as Nigeria’s president, in 2015 and 2019. He also served as military head of state between January 1984 and August 1985.
