Terrorism Financing in Nigeria: 44 Persons convicted With Prison Sentences And Hard Labour

No fewer than 44 persons have been found guilty of financing terrorism and have been handed prison sentences ranging between 10 to 30 years with hard labour depending on the gravity of their offences.


The Office of the National Security Adviser, disclosed that the individuals who were found guilty of this offence in the country have been convicted following the conclusion of their trial as contained in a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Head, Department of Strategic Communications at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Abu Michael.


Amongst those recently arraigned in Phase 7 of the trial, who were held in the detention Facility, 10 cases were adjourned during proceedings held across four courts, presided over by four Federal High Court justices.


According to the office of the NSA, the verdicts delivered from the trials resulted in prison sentences ranging from 10 to 30 years, all to be served with hard labour, underscoring the severity of the crimes and the Nigerian justice system’s resolve to uphold accountability and deter future transgressions"


The trials commenced on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, with an opening ceremony during which the National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Major General Adamu Laka, spoke on behalf of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu


"The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), was represented by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Mohammed Babadoko Abubakar who reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to justice and its determination to confront terrorism through lawful and transparent means.
