🇳🇬 Asaba Gears Up for 9th National Youth Games

 

All is set for the 9th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta State, as the city prepares to host young athletes from across Nigeria from August 26 to September 6.

The Delta State government has finalised the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and readied venues for the multi-sport event, which promises to showcase emerging talents in a wide array of disciplines.

The Delta State government constituted an eight-man LOC for the Games, chaired by Onoriode J. Oborevwori. Chief Solomon Ogba serves as Adviser, with Sam Sodje Okeremute, Oghale Ofremu, and Henrietta Ehiabor as members. Festus Ohwojero and Paul Omamomo Ojo also serve on the committee, while Emuuobo Egalase is the LOC Secretary.

Having hosted the National Youth Games in 2023 and 2024, Asaba is receiving a fresh makeover ahead of the 2025 edition. The opening ceremony is scheduled for August 28 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, with competitions running through September 6 across multiple venues in the city.

Athletes will compete in a diverse lineup of sports, including Badminton, Table Tennis, Para-Table Tennis, Athletics, Deaf Athletics, Para-Athletics, Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Wrestling, Chess, Ayo, Kickboxing, Kungfu, Para Powerlifting, Weightlifting, Basketball, Fives, Squash, Tennis, and Scrabble.

Other events include Gymnastics, Shooting, Swimming, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Football, Cricket, Cycling, Darts, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Rugby 7, Abula, Kokowa, and Volleyball, reflecting the Games’ commitment to inclusivity and the promotion of both mainstream and traditional sports.
