During the visit, the four-man committee, led by Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Isah, received briefings on troop deployments, operational processes, and the practical application of joint operations in the North East theatre.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force, OPERTION HADIN KAI Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the session also provided the opportunity for the Theatre Command to submit doctrinal inputs, ensuring that lessons from counter-insurgency operations are incorporated into the updated doctrine.

Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander OPHK, commended the DHQ initiative, emphasizing that jointness has been key to operational success and that the review would further improve coordination, supervision, and the utilization of platforms and equipment across units.

The review of the Joint Defence Doctrine comes at a crucial time for the Armed Forces. It will strengthen our joint operations, improve coordination, and ensure our troops continue to deny terrorists freedom of action,” Maj Gen Abubakar said.

AVM Isah noted that the doctrine is due for its routine five-year review, directed by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa OFR. He emphasized that gathering operational feedback from frontline units is essential to ensure that doctrinal guidance reflects current realities on the ground.

The visit also included presentations by Commander 57 Signals Brigade, Brigadier General Nelson Okafor, highlighting OPHK’s contributions to joint operations and lessons learned from sustained engagement with terrorists and other criminal elements.

Interactive discussions enabled the committee to clarify operational and strategic approaches with field commanders.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander received a courtesy visit from IHS Towers and Strength, a telecom infrastructure company, to explore deeper collaboration in securing critical national infrastructure across the North East.

Col Abdulkadir Ahmed (rtd) highlighted areas where military support has ensured the protection of telecom assets and called for continued partnership. Maj Gen Abubakar assured the team of OPHK’s commitment to protecting strategic assets in line with the Presidential Order on critical infrastructure.

The engagement underscores the Nigerian Armed Forces’ focus on integrating operational lessons, enhancing jointness, and strengthening civil-military collaboration to maintain security across the North East.
