Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie and Justine Madugu have been nominated for the Women’s Yachine Trophy and Women’s Johan Cruyff Trophy respectively at the 2025 Ballon d’Or awards.

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been nominated for the Women’s Yachine Trophy, while head coach Justine Madugu is in the running for the Women’s Johan Cruyff Trophy, recognising the world’s best women’s coach.

The Women’s Yachine Trophy, named after legendary Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin, celebrates the finest female shot-stopper in global football. In nominations released by Ballon d’Or organisers on Thursday, Nnadozie will battle Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany), Cata Coll (Spain), Hannah Hampton (England), and Daphne van Domselaar (Netherlands) for the award, set to be presented on 22 September at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, France.

Nnadozie, 24, was pivotal in Nigeria’s triumphant WAFCON 2025 campaign, keeping four clean sheets as the Super Falcons clinched a record-extending 10th continental title. She was crowned Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament and named in the Team of the Tournament.

Her heroics extended to club football, where she helped Paris FC secure the Coupe de France title with two decisive penalty saves against Paris Saint-Germain — the club’s first silverware in 20 years. Nnadozie recently sealed a transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion Women ahead of the new season.

On the touchline, Madugu’s nomination is a recognition of his tactical brilliance, having guided the Super Falcons to their historic 10th WAFCON crown without a single defeat. He was also named Best Coach of the Tournament.

The Nigerian tactician faces competition from Sarina Wiegman (England), Renee Slegers (Arsenal Women, Netherlands), Sonia Bompastor (Chelsea Women, France) and Athur Elias (Spain).

Their dual nominations cap off a glittering year for Nigerian women’s football, reinforcing the nation’s status as a continental powerhouse and a growing global force.
