Governor Ademola Adeleke’s unannounced trip to attend his nephew Davido’s Miami wedding has sparked political controversy in Osun State, as the opposition demands clarity over state leadership in his absence.

Adeleke, has been confirmed to be in the United States for the white wedding of
music star Davido, a move that has stirred questions from the opposition over
power transmission and transparency.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent
absence from Osun State has attracted criticism from the All Progressives
Congress (APC), prompting an official clarification from his spokesperson,
Olawale Rasheed, who confirmed that the governor is currently in the United
States to attend the wedding ceremony of his nephew and Afrobeats singer, David
Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Davido, in a public interview earlier
this year, had announced his white wedding with wife Chioma Avril Rowland would
take place in Miami, Florida, in August
2025.
In response to APC concerns, Rasheed
explained that Adeleke departed via a family private jet and that his trip is
short-term.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for
the United States a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his
beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” Rasheed said in a statement issued Tuesday.
“His Excellency is extending an
invitation to the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy of
the occasion with the Adeleke family. Those unable to attend may join
virtually.”
The statement emphasized that Adeleke
had not taken any official vacation
since assuming office in November 2022,
and that Deputy Governor Prince Kola
Adewusi is coordinating state affairs during his absence.
However, earlier in the day, the Osun APC released its own statement
questioning the governor’s whereabouts and whether power was constitutionally
transmitted to his deputy.
“The question being asked in hushed
tones in public spaces is where could be the whereabouts of their governor for
this long,” said APC spokesperson, Kola
Olabisi.
“As the governor of all and sundry,
we as a party need to know who has been holding fort for him during his
absence.”
The APC called the governor’s
extended silence “abnormal” and demanded more transparency from the
administration, especially in matters involving leadership handover.
