Olubadan-in-Council submits Senator Ladoja's name to Governor Seyi
Makinde for ratification as next Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The Olubadan-in-Council
has formally nominated former Oyo State
Governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland,
marking a significant step in the traditional succession process.
The nomination, which took place
during a closed-door meeting at the Oke-Aremo palace of the Olubadan on Monday,
was moved by Balogun Olubadan, Oba Tajudeen
Ajibola, and seconded by Osi
Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole.
Oba Ajibola announced that all
members of the Olubadan-in-Council had signed the endorsement documents and
were in full agreement. He said the council would forward Ladoja’s name to Governor Seyi Makinde for official
ratification, after which preparations for the coronation will commence.
The upcoming coronation will include
the presentation of the Staff of Office and Certificate of Recognition to the
incoming Olubadan.
The nomination comes after the
successful completion of the mandatory 21-day mourning period for the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd
Olubadan, who passed away on 7 July 2025
after only one year on the throne. Olakulehin had succeeded Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II,
the 42nd Olubadan.
The Olubadan stool is widely revered
for its unique and age-based succession system, which often produces monarchs
with significant political or administrative experience.
