🇳🇬 BUK ’91 Alumni Honour Classmates Turned Vice Chancellors



The Bayero University Kano (BUK) 1991 Alumni Association gathered in Kano on Saturday night to celebrate two of their own who have climbed to the peak of academic leadership as Vice Chancellors.

The honourees were Professor Haruna Musa Dambatta, fsi, the 12th Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, and Professor Yahaya Isah Bunkure (Makaman Rano), the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria.


According to the Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu Shamakeri, the dinner at the 10 to 10 Restaurant and Event Centre was a moment of collective pride. “Tonight, we honour not just two classmates, but the spirit of BUK ’91 that continues to shine through service and achievement,” he said.



The evening featured prayers, self-introductions, speeches, entertainment, and the presentation of customized congratulatory cards to both Vice Chancellors. The professors, in their remarks, expressed profound gratitude to their classmates and pledged continued commitment to education, humanity, and the enduring legacy of BUK ’91.


Among the dignitaries in attendance were members from across the public and private sectors — including academia, ministries, the security services, business community, and medical leadership. Their presence underscored the reach and influence of the alumni family.



In his vote of thanks, Alhaji Sanusi Garba Abdullahi, Vice Chairman of the Association, praised members for their solidarity. “Celebrating our Vice Chancellors is celebrating ourselves. This is the strength of BUK ’91,” he said.


The event ended with closing prayers, group photographs, and warm camaraderie, proof that the bonds of the class of 1991 remain unbroken after more than three decades.
