According to the Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the operations were conducted between 26 and 28 September after troops received credible intelligence on bandit movements around Agurugu and Igyudu villages.
The soldiers engaged the criminals at Sheekan village, forcing them to flee under heavy fire. A sweep of the scene uncovered an automatic pistol, assorted ammunition, AK-47 magazines, and 29 mobile phones abandoned by the fleeing gang.
On 28 September, another patrol at Igyudu village led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, grenade, tear gas canister, medical kits, and multiple rifle magazines. The bandits again abandoned their positions and fled.
Force Commander Major General Moses Gara praised the troops’ resilience and precision, noting: “We remain committed to restoring lasting peace in Benue and neighbouring states. Our troops have shown resilience and determination, and we will not relent until these areas are completely secured.”
Residents have since reported increased confidence in security forces, with communities reopening markets and farmlands under OPWS protection.
