Brigadier General Samaila Mohammed Uba has officially assumed duty as the new Director of Defence Information (DDI) following a recent reorganisation in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He took over from Brigadier General Tukur Gusau in a brief ceremony held at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.

According to a statement from Defence Headquarters, Brig Gen Uba pledged to operate under four strategic priorities; unity of purpose, timeliness and transparency, digital innovation, and media collaboration.
He appreciated his predecessor, Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, for his modest achievements and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Curriculum Vitae of New DDI
Born on 1 July 1968 in Tudun Wada, Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Brig Gen Uba began his military career at the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of Short Service Combatant Course 30 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 13 March 1993.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano (1990), a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (2009), and a Master’s in Strategic and Development Studies from Bangladesh University of Professionals (2019).
In the course of his career, Brig Gen Uba has attended key professional courses, including the Senior Staff Course at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College and the National Defence Course at the National Defence College, Bangladesh.
He has served in various command, staff, and instructional appointments, including Commander 401 Special Forces Brigade, Cross Kauwa, Borno State, where he distinguished himself in counter-terrorism operations. He was also the Contingent Public Relations Officer for the Nigerian Contingent to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda and later served as Public Relations Officer to the Chief of Army Staff.
His instructional postings include Chief Instructor at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and DHQ Training Team Leader at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada. He also served as Deputy Director Peacekeeping Operations and Director Personnel Services at Army Headquarters before his recent appointment as DDI.
A recipient of numerous medals and honours — including the Grand Service Star, Distinguished Service Star, Field Command Medal, and Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award — Brig Gen Uba is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management, and an Associate Member of the Nigerian Society of International Affairs.
The senior officer is married and blessed with children. In his leisure, he enjoys playing squash and reading.
