The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved the appointment of sixty-five senior officers of the Nigerian Navy to new commands and strategic positions across the service, marking one of the largest redeployments since his assumption as the 23rd indigenous Chief of the Naval Staff.

The sweeping changes, which affect postings to the Naval Headquarters, Defence Headquarters, Commands and Tri-Service institutions, reflect the Navy’s renewed drive for efficiency, leadership balance, and operational synergy.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, the new appointments are part of the CNS’s effort to reposition the Navy for optimal performance in line with its constitutional mandate.
Prominent among the newly appointed officers are Rear Admiral Suleiman Abdullahi, now Chief of Logistics at Naval Headquarters; Rear Admiral Kasim Bushi, who assumes office as Executive Director of the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria; Rear Admiral Suleiman Dahun, appointed Director Defence Cooperation at the Defence Headquarters; and Rear Admiral Anenechukwu Ezenma, who takes over as Director Lessons Learnt at the DHQ.
Others include Rear Admiral Samuel Ngatuwa, now Director Project Management at DHQ; Rear Admiral Ibrahim Shehu, who retains his role as Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard Limited; and Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, newly appointed Commandant of the National Defence College.
Rear Admiral Musa Katagum moves to NHQ as Chief of Operations, while Rear Admiral Fredrick Damtong becomes Chief of Naval Engineering. Rear Admiral Abdul-Rasheed Haruna has been appointed Chief of Training, and Rear Admiral Hamza Ibrahim now serves as Group Managing Director, Navy Holdings Limited.
Further changes include Rear Admiral Sunday Oyegade, now Director Logistics at the Defence Intelligence Agency; Rear Admiral Gideon Kachim, Chief of Defence Administration; Rear Admiral Saburi Lawal, Executive Director Business Development and Evaluation, Navy Holdings Limited; and Rear Admiral Jonathan Mamman, Chief of Administration at NHQ.
The redeployments also saw Rear Admiral Kehinde Odubanjo move to the Defence Research and Development Bureau as Director General; Rear Admiral John Okeke appointed Chief of Defence Civil-Military Cooperation; and Rear Admiral Abolade Ogunleye named Chief of Defence Training. Rear Admiral Olatunde Olodude becomes Chief of Policy and Plans, while Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi takes charge as Chief of Naval Transformation.
In a further drive to strengthen command balance, Rear Admiral Abiodun Alade was appointed Flag Officer Commanding, Logistics Command; Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, FOC Eastern Naval Command; Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, FOC Western Naval Command; and Rear Admiral Ebiobowei Zipele, FOC Naval Training Command.
Other key postings include Rear Admiral Abdul-Hamid Baba-Inna, who takes over as Navy Secretary; Rear Admiral Patrick Effah, Chief of Communications and Information Technology; Rear Admiral Bob-Manuel Effiong, FOC Naval Doctrine Command; and Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye, Commandant of the Naval War College Nigeria.
Vice Admiral Abbas, in his message to the newly appointed officers, congratulated them and urged them to rededicate themselves to duty, uphold professionalism, and justify the confidence reposed in them.
“This exercise is aimed at consolidating recent gains and driving the Navy’s mission for excellence, innovation, and maritime security,” he stated.
The appointments are expected to strengthen command cohesion, improve operational readiness, and ensure continuity in the Navy’s strategic engagements within and beyond Nigeria’s maritime domain.
