According to the Director Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, at the National Counter Terrorism Centre, the Office of the National Security Adviser, Ambassador Musa Mairo Abbas, the workshop follows regional consultations conducted across the six geo political zones beginning in Makurdi, Benue State on 14 to 15 May 2025 and concluding in Maiduguri, Borno State on 23 to 24 October 2025.
Ambassador Abbas stated that the development of the DDR National Framework represents a significant milestone in supporting individuals who have renounced violence and seek reintegration into their communities. He noted that the process reflects a collaborative effort involving government agencies, international partners, civil society organisations and communities.
He emphasised that over the course of the two day workshop, participants would review, discuss and validate the framework to ensure it is inclusive, effective and aligned with both national and international good practices. He stressed that stakeholder expertise is crucial to refining the framework and adapting it to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Ambassador Abbas acknowledged the complexity of combating violent extremism but expressed confidence that a coordinated approach would yield meaningful impact. He further clarified that the validation marks not an end, but the beginning of a new phase towards sustainable peace and stability.
