Nigeria has escalated its counterterrorism posture against transnational threats, launching precision strikes aimed at dismantling foreign ISIS-linked elements attempting to entrench themselves within the country’s North West corridor.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria, acting in conjunction with the United States of America, have conducted coordinated precision strike operations against identified foreign ISIS elements operating in parts of North West Nigeria, signalling a firm response to the growing threat of cross-border terrorist infiltration.
The operation was carried out with the approval of appropriate Federal Government authorities and forms part of broader, sustained efforts to degrade terrorist networks and prevent foreign fighters from establishing operational footholds on Nigerian soil.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the strikes were intelligence-driven and followed extensive operational planning.
“The strike followed credible intelligence and careful operational planning aimed at degrading the capability of the targeted elements while minimising collateral damage,” the statement said.
The joint action underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to confront transnational terrorism through strategic partnerships, particularly in addressing the evolving nature of security threats linked to foreign fighters and extremist networks operating across porous regional borders.
Military authorities reaffirmed that the operation aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to collective security cooperation, intelligence sharing and joint operational responses designed to disrupt terrorist mobility, logistics and command structures.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterated their unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, while sustaining joint, inter-agency and international collaboration to restore lasting peace and security across all threatened regions of the country.
