Troops of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a key drug supply suspect and intercepted about 30 kilograms of cannabis sativa in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, disrupting a logistics network linked to Boko Haram terrorist elements.

The operation, conducted on Friday, 23 January 2026 under Operation Desert Sanity V, targeted illicit supply chains sustaining terrorist activities across several communities in the North East.
According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, troops acting on credible intelligence arrested a 65 year old suspect, Hauwa Abulazeez, identified as a supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram elements operating around Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit substance was sourced from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported through established routes for onward distribution within the theatre of operations.
During the arrest, troops recovered fourteen compressed blocks of cannabis sativa with an estimated total weight of approximately thirty kilograms, a seizure assessed as a significant disruption to terrorist logistics and criminal support activities.
The suspect remains in custody undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow up operations are ongoing to identify and dismantle other members of the trafficking and distribution network.
The operation highlights the impact of targeting illicit supply chains that fuel terrorism, criminality and instability, reinforcing lawful authority and improving security conditions across the North East.
