The four-day exhibition, held from 19 to 22 January 2026, brought together global maritime defence stakeholders, showcasing cutting-edge naval platforms, weapons systems and security innovations critical to modern naval operations.
According to a statement by the Director of Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, the Chief of the Naval Staff engaged extensively with leading maritime solution providers on emerging technologies, platform acquisition and opportunities for technology transfer aimed at strengthening the Nigerian Navy’s operational and industrial capacity.
The engagement aligns with the Nigerian Navy’s long-term objective of boosting indigenous ship production. To date, the Navy has locally constructed five sea-going platforms, including MV Sauka Lafia, NNS Andoni, NNS Karaduwa, MV Tug Commander Ugwu and NNS Oji, positioning it for expanded manufacturing capability through international partnerships.
DIMDEX 2026 also provided the Nigerian Navy with access to precision-guided munitions and naval gunfire support systems suitable for maritime security operations within Nigerian waters and across the Gulf of Guinea. Discussions further covered equipment requirements for the newly established Nigerian Navy Marines, expected to be deployed in joint internal security operations nationwide.
“Our objective is to develop a modern, agile and professional naval force dedicated to securing Nigeria’s maritime interests and advancing national security objectives in synergy with other security agencies,” Vice Admiral Abbas stated.
The exhibition, hosted by the Qatar Armed Forces under the patronage of the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, featured visiting warships from partner nations berthed at Hamad Port and open to senior defence officials and delegates.
