The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, charged graduating students to prioritise innovation and technical expertise as instruments for strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture, during the institute’s combined convocation ceremony in Kaduna.

Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Richard Pheelangwah, the Minister framed education and innovation as strategic assets, stressing that future security outcomes will increasingly depend on technological capability rather than conventional force alone.

He told the graduates that their skills place them at the centre of Nigeria’s technological and security advancement, urging them to uphold discipline and professionalism as they transition into the workforce.

Institutional Role

The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) was highlighted as a key pipeline for specialised manpower, with its training and research ecosystem contributing directly to national defence capacity.

The Commandant, Adeniran Ademuwagun, encouraged graduates to sustain integrity and commitment in service, reinforcing the institute’s role in shaping technically competent personnel for both military and civilian sectors.

Strategic Signal

The emphasis on innovation signals a broader recalibration within Nigeria’s defence policy toward indigenous capability development, research-driven solutions, and technology-enabled operations across air, land, and cyber domains.

As threats evolve in complexity, authorities indicate that the ability to design, adapt, and deploy technology will define operational advantage.

Forward Outlook

Graduates are expected to feed into Nigeria’s expanding defence and security ecosystem, supporting efforts in research, systems development, and operational innovation.

The convocation, which combined multiple graduating sets, also featured the award of degrees, diplomas, and special recognitions to outstanding students.
