The CDS has consistently highlighted the importance of community partnership, vigilance, and collective responsibility in addressing security challenges in the North East, stated Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, in a statement.

“The fight against terrorism is not the responsibility of the military alone. It is a collective duty. Residents of Borno and Yobe must reject terrorism in all its forms and actively support security agencies with credible and timely information,” the statement emphasized.

The clarification comes after some media outlets misrepresented the CDS’ remarks, framing them as a blanket accusation against residents. DHQ stressed that references to particular incidents, such as wounded terrorists being sheltered in a community, were specific observations, not generalized indictments. These examples aimed to reinforce the importance of vigilance and community support in counterinsurgency efforts.

DHQ also reaffirmed the military’s ongoing successes in the North East and its commitment to protecting all law-abiding citizens. The statement urged media organizations and content creators to exercise professional reporting to avoid misinformation that could undermine public trust or community-military cooperation.

“Together with the people and journalists committed to accurate reporting, the Armed Forces of Nigeria will continue to neutralize terrorist threats, restore stability in affected regions, and strengthen collaboration with communities for sustained security,” DHQ concluded.
