The appointments, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, form part of an ongoing institutional transformation programme aimed at reinforcing operational leadership and enhancing the Army's capacity to respond to contemporary and future threats, according to a statement issued by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
The reshuffle places new commanders at some of the Army's most sensitive operational formations. Major General WM Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, succeeding Major General EF Oyinlola, while Major General EI Okoro assumes command of 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General EE Emeka.
Army Headquarters also approved the appointment of Major General JR Lar as Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola becomes Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri retains his position as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff.
Beyond the theatre commands, the restructuring extends to tactical formations expected to sustain operational momentum across the country. Brigadier General IB Buhari has been appointed Commander Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brigadier General K Rabiu takes command of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade as the Army strengthens field leadership and force readiness.
The latest postings also underscore a growing emphasis on technology and intelligence within Nigeria's security architecture. Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander Nigerian Army Space Command, reflecting the Army's expanding focus on emerging domains of warfare, while Major General O Adegbe assumes office as Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters to strengthen intelligence coordination across the Armed Forces.
Professional military education and leadership development equally feature prominently in the new appointments. Major General KE Chigbu becomes Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General SD Makolo takes over as Commandant Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General SO Adejimi has been appointed Commandant Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, while Major General FS Etim assumes office as Chief of Training at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army. Brigadier General U Ahmad has also been posted as Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
Within the Army's institutional establishments, Major General KO Ukandu has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison takes over as Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
Army leadership directed the newly appointed senior officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation and an unwavering commitment to defending Nigeria's sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
The latest leadership restructuring reflects a broader effort to align command appointments with operational priorities, institutional reforms and emerging security realities as the Nigerian Army continues its drive towards building a more professional, combat-ready and adaptive force capable of meeting increasingly complex security demands.
