Date: 15 June 2026
Time: 20:20 WAT
Location: Tunga, Katsina, Nigeria
The rescue followed intensified search-and-rescue operations under Operation FASAN YAMMA after her abduction alongside her husband a few weeks earlier.
According to a statement issued by the Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, sustained offensive pressure on criminal elements culminated in contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, Katsina state, leading to the recovery of the victim.
During the encounter, the bandits reportedly shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to advancing troops and overwhelming operational pressure.
Strategic operational implication
The Armed Forces of Nigeria noted that the rescue reflects sustained degradation pressure being applied on armed bandit networks in the North-West, particularly under Operation FASAN YAMMA, where continued offensive actions are aimed at dismantling operational cells and denying them freedom of movement.
Military leadership further reaffirmed that follow-on operations will maintain pursuit of those responsible, with broader intent to consolidate territorial control and reduce recurring abduction risks across affected corridors.
She was immediately evacuated by troops and moved to a military medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding to care.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria have reiterated commitment to ensuring her full recovery, while providing necessary support to her family during this period.
Troops are also continuing ongoing operations aimed at tracking down and neutralising the perpetrators, as part of broader efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks across Katsina State and other affected areas nationwide.
