Nigeria's drive to strengthen national security is increasingly extending beyond government funding, with the Nigerian Army positioning strategic private sector investment as a force multiplier for military expansion, personnel welfare, veterans' support and critical infrastructure development.

Speaking during the reception for the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), Dr Ubon Udoh, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, outlined a broader security philosophy that views corporate participation as an essential contributor to operational readiness and national resilience.
Army leadership noted that evolving security challenges require closer collaboration among government institutions, the Armed Forces and responsible private sector organisations to sustain Nigeria's security architecture.
The COAS argued that investment in rural infrastructure, particularly road networks, delivers both economic and security dividends by improving troop mobility, accelerating operational deployments, strengthening logistics and opening isolated communities to legitimate economic activity.
He explained that better connectivity also limits the ability of terrorists and other criminal groups to exploit inaccessible terrain as operational sanctuaries, reinforcing infrastructure development as a strategic security asset rather than merely a public works initiative.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also reaffirmed that personnel welfare remains central to the Nigerian Army's Soldier First philosophy, identifying quality healthcare for wounded soldiers, sustained support for veterans and improved living conditions for serving personnel as critical factors in maintaining morale, professionalism and combat effectiveness.
Within this broader welfare agenda, Army leadership commended ASR Africa and its founder, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, for continued investment in military healthcare, describing such interventions as direct contributions to operational capability and force readiness.
The Army further linked corporate investment to its ongoing expansion programme following presidential approval to increase the Nigerian Army's operational structure from eight to twelve divisions. The COAS acknowledged ASR Africa's construction of 120 accommodation units for Corporals and Below at Giri, Abuja, describing the project as a timely contribution towards supporting the Service's expanding manpower and infrastructure requirements. He urged more corporate organisations to emulate the initiative by investing in projects that strengthen military infrastructure, personnel welfare and broader national development.
Earlier, ASR Africa Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ubon Udoh, conveyed the goodwill of the Initiative's founder, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, while reaffirming the organisation's long-term partnership with the Nigerian Army.
He disclosed that implementation of the Army's ₦2 billion allocation under ASR Africa's ₦10 billion Security Sector Support Grant is progressing steadily, reinforcing the organisation's commitment to improving operational capacity, personnel welfare and national security through sustained corporate support.
