🇳🇬 Senior ISWAP Financier Surrenders As 46 Terrorists Abandon Insurgency

Operation HADIN KAI's counterterrorism campaign has recorded one of its most significant psychological and operational gains in recent months, with a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative surrendering alongside two children.

Approximately 46 terrorists and their family members voluntarily laid down their arms within days, signalling growing cracks inside the insurgent group's command and sustainment network. The development reflects mounting pressure from sustained intelligence-led land and air offensives across the North East. 

Within the Theatre Command's latest operational assessment, the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force(North East) Operates HADIN KAI Maidugiru, Captain Mohammed Goni disclosed that the senior ISWAP figure surrendered to troops of 3 Battalion under 24 Task Force Brigade at about 06:45 WAT on 25 July 2026 along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis of the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route after recent coordinated assaults on terrorist enclaves.

Preliminary profiling identified the individual as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he reportedly managed the group's financial operations, logistics coordination and sustainment activities. His surrender alongside two male children represents more than the defection of another insurgent; it strikes at one of the organisational structures that enables terrorist operations to survive prolonged military pressure.

Troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one motorcycle and ₦40,000 from the surrendered operative. Military authorities indicated that the suspect is undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to extract actionable intelligence expected to support ongoing operations against remaining terrorist cells across the North East theatre.

The simultaneous surrender of about 46 terrorists and their family members reinforces indications that Operation HADIN KAI's sustained offensive is eroding confidence within insurgent ranks. Unlike isolated defections, the growing number of voluntary surrenders suggests increasing disillusionment among fighters as military operations continue to degrade command structures, logistics corridors and financial networks that sustain terrorist activities.

Operation HADIN KAI maintained that the latest surrender demonstrates the cumulative effect of combining kinetic operations with intelligence exploitation and the Federal Government's non-kinetic initiatives. The Theatre Command urged remaining insurgents to abandon violence while calling on residents to continue providing credible intelligence capable of accelerating ongoing counterterrorism operations and consolidating lasting peace across the North East.
