Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has thwarted another large-scale kidnap attempt in Zamfara State after troops swiftly responded to a terrorist raid on Magami village, rescuing 48 abducted residents and forcing the attackers to abandon their captives.

The operation reinforces the military's strategy of rapid-response interventions aimed at disrupting terrorist raids before victims can be moved into forest hideouts.
Providing details of the operation, the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMALieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed that troops of Sector 2 mobilised immediately after receiving a distress call that about 40 motorcycles conveying heavily armed terrorists had stormed Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area during the early hours of 26 July 2026.
According to the operational update, the attackers rounded up scores of residents while another group remained outside the community with motorcycles prepared for a mass abduction.
The operational assessment indicated that troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight immediately upon arrival, overwhelming the attackers with superior firepower and compelling them to flee into the surrounding bush. Their withdrawal led to the successful rescue of all 48 kidnapped civilians before they could be transported to terrorist enclaves.
Military authorities confirmed that one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated to the General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving medical treatment. Troops subsequently launched aggressive fighting patrols across the general area to prevent any regrouping by the fleeing terrorists and reassure surrounding communities.
The Theatre Command commended the gallantry, professionalism and rapid response of the troops, describing the rescue as another demonstration of Operation FANSAN YAMMA's sustained offensive posture against terrorist networks operating across the North-West.
The Command also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence, noting that community cooperation remains a critical force multiplier in ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and restore lasting security across the region.
