The breakthrough highlights the growing reliance on coordinated intelligence operations by the Nigerian Army and sister security agencies to dismantle organised kidnapping networks, identify their logistics and support structures, and strengthen security across the region.

According to Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army, troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, operating under Operation UDO KA alongside other security agencies, launched a cordon-and-search operation in Obinwanne Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area, following actionable intelligence. Army authorities disclosed that troops recovered a bag used to transport ransom payments, abandoned in a nearby bush, indicating the proceeds had already been shared among members of the criminal gang.

The military further stated that follow-up intelligence exploitation led troops to a residential building where a suspect was arrested. During the search, security forces recovered a black Lexus saloon car allegedly used during the kidnapping operation, alongside mobile phones, identity documents and ₦298,200 believed to be part of the ransom collected from the victim.

Headquarters 82 Division disclosed that the rescued victim positively identified the arrested suspect as a participant in the abduction. Preliminary investigations also indicated that the suspect allegedly provided his vehicle to the syndicate's principal actor and received a share of the ransom after the operation.

Army authorities confirmed that the suspect and all recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation and continued efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate, including the alleged kingpin who remains at large.

The operation, according to Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army, demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven security operations and sustained inter-agency collaboration in degrading kidnapping networks and combating violent crime across the South-East.
