Major General James Myam (Rtd) made the point while formally inaugurating the Work Ethics and Organisational Performance Course 8/2026 at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where participants are being trained on workplace culture, ethical decision-making, conflict management and the organisational practices required to improve performance.

The course is designed to move the discussion of work ethics beyond individual conduct by examining how organisational culture, leadership and interpersonal relationships influence productivity and the achievement of institutional goals.

According to Major General Myam, the programme is intended to deepen participants’ understanding of the relationship between proper work ethics and productivity while equipping them to become change agents capable of transferring the knowledge gained to their respective organisations.

Building Performance Through Workplace Culture

The training programme covers organisational culture and ethics, value-based leadership, effective communication, interpersonal relations, performance management and the achievement of organisational goals.

Participants are also being exposed to team building, employee motivation, respect and inclusion in the workplace, workplace conflict management and leadership development.

That combination gives the course a broader institutional purpose. Rather than treating productivity simply as an issue of individual effort, the programme examines the organisational conditions that determine whether people can work effectively together.

Leadership is consequently presented as a central mechanism for enforcing ethical standards and creating an environment in which productivity can improve.

A Cross-Sector Learning Environment

The participation of personnel from the Armed Forces, paramilitary organisations, corporate bodies and civil society also gives the programme a wider dimension.

Major General Myam encouraged participants to use the diversity of the course to build professional networks that could support collaborative working during and after the programme.

That approach reflects the Centre’s broader emphasis on networking as a tool for strengthening relationships across institutions.

For a course focused on organisational performance, the interaction itself becomes part of the learning model: participants are not only being exposed to different approaches to workplace management, but also to colleagues operating within different institutional cultures and professional environments.

Turning Training Into Organisational Change

The real test of the programme will come after the classroom.

Major General Myam urged participants to engage actively with facilitators and resource persons, emphasising the expectation that the knowledge gained would be applied within their respective organisations.

That places responsibility beyond attendance.

The intended outcome is a group of professionals capable of transferring lessons on ethical conduct, leadership, communication, teamwork and performance management into their workplaces.

The course therefore positions work ethics not simply as a question of personal discipline, but as part of the machinery through which organisations build trust, improve performance and achieve institutional objectives.

Major General Myam also acknowledged the programme coordinators, facilitators, resource persons and sponsoring organisations, while appreciating the guidance and support of the Chief of Army Staff and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

He subsequently formally inaugurated the Work Ethics and Organisational Performance Course 8/2026.
