The operations conducted on August 7 resulted in the clearance of a suspected Improvised Explosive Device from a major road, the recovery of terrorist equipment and military accoutrements, and the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the movement of funds linked to a terrorist network.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 working with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team responded to a report of a suspected IED near Jabanda village in Zurmi Local Government Area.

The security team located and cleared the device, subsequently scanning the road and declaring it safe before reopening the route to motorists. The operation removed an immediate explosive threat from a road used by civilians while denying terrorists the opportunity to disrupt movement along the route.

The counter-IED operation was followed by a separate encounter when troops returning from the area encountered terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area. The troops engaged the terrorists and forced them to withdraw into the bush.

Exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items. In Shinkafi Local Government Area, troops of Sector 2, operating alongside the Mobile Police Squadron, also acted on credible intelligence concerning terrorist activity around Kwanar Jolof.

The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray. A subsequent search of the area resulted in the recovery of a motorcycle, two camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest and a jungle hat, among other items.

The operations also extended to the suspected logistics and financial support structure of the terrorist network. Troops conducting patrols near Maradun intercepted 35-year-old Lawali Dan Alo, identified by the Joint Task Force as a suspected terrorist collaborator and logistics vendor.

A search of his bag, which he reportedly claimed contained food items, resulted in the recovery of ₦5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone. Preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspect was allegedly delivering the money on behalf of a terrorist leader to another individual identified as Kasimu Garba.

Garba was subsequently arrested at his residence, with both suspects placed in custody for further investigation.

The sequence of operations demonstrates the breadth of the current security pressure being applied across the terrorist network, extending beyond direct encounters with armed elements to the movement of equipment, communications, logistics and funds that enable terrorist activity.

The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and prompt response, while reaffirming that aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and targeted action against terrorist networks will continue across the North-West.

The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing the importance of public cooperation in efforts to restore lasting peace across the region.
