The Theatre Command is placing particular emphasis on accurate, contextual and responsible reporting, amid concerns that terrorists can use publicity to amplify fear, exaggerate their capabilities and gain psychological advantage.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, made the call on 19 August while hosting journalists at the Theatre Headquarters in Gusau for a media parley.

Major General Idris described the media as a strategic partner in counter-terrorism, noting that military operations must be complemented by effective communication capable of strengthening public confidence and national resilience.

He urged journalists to exercise particular care when reporting terrorism-related developments, warning against headlines or reports that could inadvertently glorify terrorist groups, romanticise their activities or provide them with the publicity they seek. He also called for sensitive security information to be verified through appropriate channels and presented accurately and in context.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zamfara State Council, Ibrahim Musa Maizare, welcomed the engagement and pledged the cooperation of journalists in supporting efforts to restore peace and security across the state.

The parley also featured discussions on information management and military-media relations, alongside a visit by participants to the Theatre's Wall of Heroes, commemorating personnel who have died in service since the commencement of Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
